A native of Tucson, Dr. Larson attended the University of Arizona, graduating summa cum laude with degrees in both microbiology and psychology. He was the senior student of the year in the college of microbiology and a NASA space grant research fellow. He attended the University of Arizona medical school as a Dean’s Scholar, graduating at the top of his class in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He was recognized as the Outstanding Senior Student in Surgery. Dr. Larson’s internship and residency in Plastic Surgery were completed in Washington, DC at Georgetown University and its affiliated hospitals under the mentorship of famous breast reconstructive surgeons Dr. Scott Spear and Maurice Nahabedian. He went on to receive further training in microvascular surgery and complex oncologic defect reconstruction under legendary microsurgeon Peter Neligan at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. After returning to Tucson, Dr. Larson joined the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Arizona where he worked for seven years. He served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery for four of those years. He continues to have professorship appointments in both the Division of Plastic Surgery and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Arizona. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Larson is interested and trained in all aspects of plastic surgery. While his primary focus is on reconstruction of traumatic, oncologic or surgical defects, he also offers cosmetic surgery of the face and body, lipedema treatment, skin lesion treatment, body contouring, gender affirmation surgery and breast reduction. He is also proud to offer a number of less invasive treatments such as neurotoxins and fillers and is an expert in body contouring technologies.

Dr. Larson’s vast experience in all aspects of surgery allow him to apply a critical eye and skilled approach to any clinical problem. His additional training and expertise also allow him to offer microsurgical reconstructive treatment options to patients. Often these surgeries are the final option in an otherwise unsalvageable reconstruction. Similarly, microsurgery can also provide the added benefit of reducing the morbidity in reconstructions that might have previously required the sacrifice of muscle or additional tissue.

Dr. Larson has a special interest in breast reconstruction following mastectomy. He is proud to be one of the few surgeons in Southern Arizona to offer microsurgical breast reconstruction with free DIEP flaps. This surgery allows for breast reconstruction with a patient’s own tissue while preserving the muscular integrity of the abdominal wall.

Dr. Larson believes strongly in compassionate care. He has received the Arnold P. Gold foundation award for compassion in medicine. He is actively pursuing research projects on a number of topics. He continues to teach and mentor medical students and residents in the art and science of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The Man is an Artist

5 5 1
I am a FTM transgender person and after I went to a prominent surgeon that ended up mangling and disfiguring my chest Dr. Larson took me in and worked a miracle. Both my mother and I cried when the bandages finally came off and instead of a crooked set of scars and severe pitting I had a normal, healthy looking chest. I don't know how he did it but the man is an artist. He's also very compassionate and respectful and demands the same compassion and respect from those who work with him.

Orbital Floor Implant

Dr. Larsen and his surgical team are amazing. From top to bottom his entire team wiIl treat you with so much compassion that you will feel like family. I highly recommend Dr. Larsen to anyone finding themselves needing any type of facial surgery. The professionalism and compassion that Dr. Larsen and his team treat his patients with is unparalleled and definitely deserves to be noticed by Arizona paitents and hospital administration. Thank you to everyone that works with Dr. Larsen and the man himself for making my experience at banner medical a good one. I want to give Dr. Larsens nurse eucina(probably butchered spelling sorry) for foing above ans beyond her normal responsibility by setting up my rides, letting me send pictures of my eye to her cell phone, and making all the calls back and forth to set all this up all while busy with clinic. That woman is amazing and is worth every cent she is paid and then some.

Not Enough Stars for Dr. Larson

There are not enough stars for Dr Larson and my team of Drs. at Tucson Banner Cancer Ctr. Dr Larson successfully and perfectly replaced muscle tissue on my body that had nine previous operations. How he did it is beyond me. He is very particular and professional but at the same time kind, patience and answers ALL your questions. He worked a miracle. Plus his Office Staff are just as kind and respectful. The dear Lord placed me in good hands. He’s Amazing!
