Dr. Schluender earned her doctor of medicine degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed general surgery residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Schluender moved to Tucson in 2006 to join Southwestern Surgery Associates.
Dr. Schluender is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She is board certified in both general surgery and colon and rectal surgery.
Dr. Schluender has been performing advanced laparoscopic surgery including single incision laparoscopic surgery since finishing fellowship in 2006. Since 2015 her practice has focused on robotic colon and rectal surgery. Minimally invasive surgery is used for the surgical treatment of colon and rectal carcinoma, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and other benign colon and rectal conditions. This includes sphincter sparing surgery and TAMIS (transanal minimally invasive surgery) for rectal lesions.
Dr. Schluender also performs anorectal surgery, including surgery for rectal prolapse, hemorrhoids, anal fissures and fistulas, anal cancer, pilonidal disease and benign anorectal conditions.
Participating with most major health plans Dr. Schluender is accepting new patients. She is affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson Medical Center, and Camp Lowell Surgery Center.
