Dr. Untch is a board-certified general orthopedic surgeon. He received his undergraduate bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio in 1990. He then attended medical school at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed orthopedic surgery residency training at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon, in 2005. After serving over 24 years as a Medical Officer, Flight Surgeon and Orthopedic Surgeon in the US Air Force, he transitioned to civilian practice and joined Arizona Orthopedics Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine Center in 2015.
Dr. Untch has interest and experience in arthroscopy and sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, fractures of the extremities, and various other musculoskeletal conditions. Some of the more common procedures he performs are knee arthroscopy, arthroscopic-assisted knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration procedures, shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder labral and rotator cuff repair, total hip and knee replacement surgery, internal fixation of fractures of the extremities, and carpal tunnel release. He also provides non-operative treatment for many orthopedic conditions, and provides injections for arthritis and joint pain.
Dr. Untch has delivered presentations at specialty conferences and events and authored articles in peer-reviewed orthopedic journals. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
His practice philosophy is focused on involving the patient and family in their care, ensuring the patient understands their condition and the treatment options and fully participates in their treatment plan.
